Shot this Bittern at Point Pelee National Park in July. I was walking the marsh boardwalk at about 9AM, stopped at a clear spot to take a rest from carrying the tripod, when I noticed it. It was a surprise as I had not seen one before. The bird was unusually close and did not notice me, though I still had to mount the 1.4x, which I did with a lot of hasty fumbling, trying not to miss the photo opportunity. As always, comments are invited and thank you for looking.

Very nice bittern although I would prefer about 1/3 stop less exposure.

Lat, this image is quite a bit bigger than the maximum 650 pixel side specified by the guidelines.

OOPS! I'm sorry, I checked it and you are quite right. I must have forgotten to make the adjustment when cropping.

Nice comp. A little contrasty but a pleasing image.

A lovely looking male, Lat. I agree with EJ that 1/3 to 1/2 less EV would be the ticket.

Very nice image of the bird. The BG could be improved if it were a little less contrasty and busy.

As has been mentioned - a little overexposed. The pose with the raised foot is very nice.

You have a nice pose with this guy. I agree with the others about the exposure. Funny but I'd never think of seeing one at Point Pelee.

Overexposure has been mentioned, otherwise a nice pose and composition.

Lat, This is a male with black crown and back.
The females are browner in these areas.
Both sexes will incubate the eggs!!
BTW, I've changed my name to Sandy.

Well done Lat, this is a lovely pose and picture with excellent detail and composition. Apart from the harsh light its a real winner!
