Excellent, Attila. With the bird's bill pointing right, I would go for a significant crop on the left.

Nice shot. I agree with Sandy and I'm not convinced you have the best composition here. With the bird's head facing right, maybe more space should be there instead of on the left. An overall tighter crop mighty work too if the sharpness can handle it.

What Sandy and Robert said :) I would prefer the bird in the left part of the frame. Otherwise this woks well.

In spite of good compositional considerations and crop suggestions, it is a very nice bird, exposure for me should be -1/3, good detail and a low angle to boot!!, Very nice!! Congrats!!! 8)

The composition suggestions are good and you might try it to see how it would look. Other than that I like it. I've yet to see my first Red Knot....here's hoping one will plop down soon. Nice action with the preening as well....always nice to get something other than just the portrait.

Attila,

I agree with the crop ideas too and also to crop off the dark area on top.

This is a very nice image with great action showing the delicate preening.

Nice looking bird! Details in the feather is excellent! While I agree with the others on having more space in the direction the bird is facing. I do wonder why this is preferred. If the idea of giving space to the front of the bird, so you get the feeling he's moving into the negative space. In this case he's preening, not walking backwards. From watching these guys, I know he's going to stop preening and move to the left.

Hi, Attila, so good to see you here! :D

I would love to see one of these guys myself. I love the scalloped look to the feathers. Personally I don't mind the placement of the bird in the frame but wouldn't be opposed to a little coming off the top. But it's all subjective, anyway. :)

What I like about this one is the fluffed up feathers showing all that gorgeous detail.

Hi Attila, Nice bird--I've only seen one red Knot in 3 days, that a molting adult. As for the image, I don't mind the basic composition though a left placement is an option, and possibly the strongest... Images of preening birds generally work best if the bird's head is absolutely parallel to the film plane. Here, the bird's head is tilted well away from the film plane. Lastly, an even lower angle would most likely have produced a more intimate and dramatic image. Good seeing you in the mud. I'm trying to post one of mine from the road without much success. Best, Artie

Attila---I like this and can see the bird placed differently in the frame but I like it as is. Would add a bit more USM.
