This was taken at a local corp lake (Smithville Lake). Due to the severe drought, we have very little shorebird habitat left in NW Mo. Had to endure the constant ski boats, jet ski and bass boat wakes to get this shot. I'm not complaining, just hoping someone feels my pain :D .

Very nice, Chris. A slight head turn toward you would have been nice.

Very nice warm colors and low angle. A head turn toward you would have made this one an ideal portrait.

As the others have said an excellent photo that would be improved with a slight head turn toward the camera.

Chris, in terms of presentation here, it looks like it could use a little USM applied. I would have loved this more with the head turned slightly. Still very good.

I pretty much agree with what has been said above. I love the pretty, soft blue in the image.

Very nice, nice light, lovely bird and pretty good detail, still nice even if the head in not screwed on right, a touch of USM could also help!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Very nice job with this guy. There are days when you really have to work at getting the shot as you did. Well.....it paid off as this is a wonderful image. I'm learning to love the shorebirds more each day.

Nice angle and exposure on this guy. While the slight head turn would be better the head and beak are nice and sharp here.
Like you...I'm ready for rain and cooler weather.
Glad you found your way over here.

Hi Chris,
Very nice portrait of this guy (gal?). Exposure looks right on the money.

Beatiful detail. Ditto what EJ said, I would prefer for the bird to be facing towards the camera just a bit more.

Chris, You said: "just hoping someone feels my pain." Indeed I do. It's just as bad here in Miami where we have, surprisingly, very limited access to any peaceful shore. Yours is a marvelous capture just as is!!!

Beautiful light and bg, love the water drop on the beak. For me the nit is the softness of the feathers, almost blurrieness. Nice low angle too.

The overall impression of this image is of a soft, thoughtful, quiet moment in nature. That's quite a contrast the the setting you have described! I like it just fine, esp. the feather contrasts and exquisite detail around the eye and would encourage you to endure more pain and get some more of these, at least one of which has its head more on a parallel with the film plane.
