Taken early on this year. I was experimenting shooting flying birds with backlighting, slow ss, precise panning and fill flash. This is just one of them. You might have to get use to my tight framing for this kind of flight shots ...

KK, THe fluttering wings are great, but I prefer more space about flying birds, especially in front.

I like the diagonal comp a lot and the position of the bird is great. A bit more room around the bird would make it even better for me.

Crazy guy you are...

Wow, awesome shot. For me tight framing like you did here works. Probably indeed a bit better with extra space, but one can't choose that. Only way it could improve in my book is changing it from backlit fot front lit, but that one can't choose either. So for the circumstances the perfect shot.

Cheers

Another vote for a little more room, but wonderful as is. Open mouth, implied motion and filling the frame from corner to corner are all positives. Wish for just a bit more DOF to get the feet sharp as well since they're integral to the composition.

Its a little tight and soft for me but still a pleasing image.

In most cases I would think this is too tight but in this case I don't because of the excellent placement of the bird in the frame and the strong diagonal

Very nice, KK. I like the diagonal composition and the back-lighting. For those who compose tight images, like you and me, it is important to have the hind portions of the bird closer to the edge of the frame than the front portions - just as you did here.

Thank you all for your kind comments so far! The tight framing ... :)

Rich, The blur feet was in fact due to motion (remember I was using a rather slow ss!) not insufficient dof

Successful experiment. The slightly open bill adds to it.

A little more space, but a nice artsy feel to this shot. I might try a touch more flash and it works better (for me) flipped end for end.

I like what you've done with this one....it has a nice mood. I also like tight shots but I think in this case it is just a tad too tight. Still you did well.

Even if it is tight, you didn't cut anything off so consider it good work! :D Parts of my birds keep falling off! I like the way it is lit.

I like the soft effect and the comp works for me. Nicely done.

KK,
Beautiful shot. I agree about the need for a little more space.
