Spent a couple days in San Diego working and had a little morning time to get some shots of the local birdlife. This guy liked to perform at La Jolla cliffs. Boy, I sure wish I could spend more time by the ocean(s).

I just love the action. Yeah, these guys are all clowns, Rob. He looks like a dancing fool. I wouldn't mind a bit more room below. A blue cast seems to exist. Critical focus appears to be on the left wing rather than the head.

Sandy, I agree with all your comments. Unfortunately, I couldn't back up any further so I opted for the full wing. The focus was set for the middle sensor with the surrounding circle secondary. Maybe the light was too low for the middle sensor to do full focus. Do you think I should have gone to manual?

Rob, the middle sensor is the most accurate of all sensors so it would not have helped to change that. If you can focus well manually, that's great. Some can; I cannot. I wish I could show you all the missed focus efforts I come up with even on a good day.

Interesting pose on this bird Rob,

My only nit is the large brown rock in the lower right but I know there is not much you can do to make it smaller. Great action.

He is going the La Jolla Monster Mash!!
Lift left wing, tuck the right one, lift the right foot, shift your head to the right, now switch and repeat!!!
Funny bird, indeed!!! Congrats!! 8)

The big nits have already been explained. The rock and the lack of critical focus on the head. But the action makes up for most of that. :) Funny image!

Wonderful, comical posture of the animal; would love some more room in the frame. :)

I agree with Sandy's astute remarks, but still a funny shot!

As usual, Sandy's right on target, but you've just gotta laugh looking at this shot. Looks like all parts are in motion.
