This was taken in California January 2002 on my First instructional photography trip with Arthur Morris. It was my first introduction to Greg Downing and his tremendous photography skills, as well.
This was taken below the cliffs at La Jolla on the beach. This is still one of my favorites and I hope you will enjoy it as well.
Thank you for taking the time to look :D

Just got home from shooting all morning at La Jolla. There are a lot of Turnstones hanging out down there. I really like the comp and bg. Needs a bit more USM though. Funny to come home and find this posted as I can't seem to get them out of my mind! Thanks.

This is very, very nice. The colors and curves of the foreground, especially, make this one a winner. In my experience, this species is fairly easy to photograph when perching on rocks, but difficult to find still on the ground in uncluttered surroundings as it searches for food.

Ideally it would be better if the bird gave you more of a profile both to better show the bird and to have more depth of field on it. This is still works well as is, though.

Nice shot, Karen. I like the BG and the curves of the rocks. Great job. I believe this is the first photo I have seen posted on this species.

Excellent, Karen. The curve of the lower rock echoes the curve of the RT's back. The green foliage also works well. A small jolt of USM probably wouldn't hurt.

This is certainly a different image that what I was expecting. I love it....especially the colors. It's not often that you can get such beautiful colors when shooting these guys. Very well done.

Karen, I believe I've seen this before and I still think it's great! Love the crouched little bird and the really cool environment. I can see why it's among your favorites.
