Sandy, Great story. This baby bittern is certainly out in the open. Do you have recordings of these sounds?

Sandy, cute 'lil fuzz-ball! Why did you pick f/8 over, say, f/11? I mean, besides issues of rendering BG's detailless which is possible with wide open apertures, what do you find to be the best sharpness combination with this rig? Thanks!

Juli, thanks for the comments. On most shots like this, where DOF is not much of an issue, I go a stop above my maximal aperture. With a 1.4x TC and a f4 lens, my widest possible opening was f5.6, so I went to f8. I didn't consider f11 mainly because I didn't want the BG to come into focus.

Rich, I had displayed three shots of Bittern Baby on NPN. All the images you see on NSN will be new.

Very cute Sandy! I am not sure I care for the side-lighting and the resulting shadow on the bulrush, but that is minor and this has lots of character!
