This is awesome Jimmy. I love the bird, flower and background. I think I would have shot this at 1/500 using synced flash rather than HS flash. Yes the background would have been 2/3 darker but the wings would have less motion blur - it would still blur somewhat but not as much. Either way, its a fantastic photo.

Beautiful, Jimmy. I think I'd remove about half of the negative space from the right side.

Wonderful image and great flash use. I too agree with Sandy about the crop.

Nice shot, good exposure. The image would be stronger if the flower petal was not right on top of the Hummers head.

In a perfect world the male would have been a bit away from the flower and the flower would be slightly right. In that same world, the image would have been taken by me.

We don't live in that world so the bird is in the flower and you were sitting in my seat. :D Still the nits aren't big enough to ruin that fact that you got it and it's good.

Love the Ruby-throated Hummers. We've got about 30-40 at the feeders all the time right now.
Nice capture on the gorget colors here. Like EJ I stay with the 1/500ss for some motion blur and 1/2000 for some 'frozen' shots.
Nice one.

Jimmy,

Great results here. The wing blur shows how hummers look. The background and flower are awesome.
