Dunlin?
Image

10D, 1-4IS @400mm, ff@ -1 1/3, handheld
1/100
f5.6
Exp 0
ISO 800

Slight crop, a little USM adjustment, and saturation increase. Touch of brightness and contrast. It was just before sunset, and really heavy overcast. Caught this peep near home after shooting canada geese. Had I film, I would never have bothered going outside yesterday. :)

cheers,

Matt,

I can't help with the ID but I think this is a nice shot. Great pose and the vegetation adds a nice splash of color. :)

Matt, I wish the FF put a stronger catchlight in the eye. Nice photo.

Hi Matt. This is a really nice little bird and I think you're composition here works really well. I do think you could warm this up a little to take it up another notch and I also think it would take a little more sharpening. I would love a chance to play with this image in PS as I think it's very nicely done.

Laura,
sure - I'm on my laptop, so I didn't do much right now, but I'm going to revisit this one - if you have any ideas I'd like to see em.

Thanks Matt. I have a set of preset actions found somewhere (?) online. It's been a long time and I'm not sure where I found them. I've applied the warming action twice and then applied an action called Larry's edge sharpening twice at 100/.3/0.

While these preset actions don't always work well, and I much prefer to tweak things by hand, sometimes I think it's fun to see what they will do. I am sure your reworked image will be much better than what I have to offer!

I'm always hesitant to repost someone's image as only they will really know how the situation looked. That being said, here is your shot with the preset actions applied.

Thanks for letting me play! :)

Definitely a winter plumage Dunlin and a nice shot - especially the corrected version.

Nice image matt. actually I like the softer colors in the first image more. Just could use a bit of USM.
