Denali NP, mid September, from a car (we won a road pass in the lottery.)

I'm curious what others think of the grass in front of the bird.

Edit: EOS 3, 500/4, maybe a 1.4 TC, Provia 100F.

Great detail in the bird, I like the snow and red plants on the ground. Great blue sky, too!

As far as the grass goes, typically I like either a fairly clear shot or a bit more vegetation for the bird to look like it's in habitat, peering through. A single blade seems a little distracting to me (two, if counting the OOF one on the right). I think maybe if it was further back on the bird it would work better, as the front of the bird tends to be the "subject" in my view. But that's just my opinion in answering your question.

Still a great shot. That must have been a treat, shooting from the car at Denali. I hope to get there someday.

The grass in the front of the bird is a bit of a distraction but it would never stop me from posting a like image.

Great shot! I don't mind the grass, mainly because the one in front of the bird is in focus.

Great image with fantastic colours. The sky was really blue that day! The single straw in front of the bird is a bit distracting though

Tim,

My thought on this is that, if the grass was not there, you may have done a horizontal crop, which I think would be better. This image is so nice, I would be tempted to remove the grass.. The colors are awesome. Film or digital?

I guess I'm ambivalent regarding the grass. On one hand it is I like it because it is complete, in focus, and at an angle opposite the bird. On the other hand, it is a bit of a distraction - ironically for the same reasons. :?

Very nice image with excellent exposure and terrific colors.

Tim,
Nice shot. Exposure looks great. Love that deep blue sky. The grass bothers me a little. Partly because it continues above the bird into the open background. If it was a short shoot in front of the bird it would not have been a problem. You couldn't reach out and break it off? :)

Everything about this image is wonderful except the fore mentioned grass. I think there are enough good points to out-weight the grass though. I only wish it wasn't going through the bird's neck/breast, further back on the bird would have minimized its impact (IMHO).
