Hope you guys don’t mind me sharing a baby picture. :D

This image represents NSN; just born and learning to swim. Hope we are doing ok and thanks for all the support!

This was taken in May while visiting a friend who has a boat. Friends with boats are not a bad thing to have, especially if they live on a lake in Florida ;)

EOS 1D, EF 600/4IS, 1.4TC, manual exposure; 1/400 @ F11, ISO 320, fill at -3, image flipped horizontally.

P.S. sorry if some of you have seen this before, but you know how people like to show off their baby pictures ;)

This just didn't peg my cuteness meter - the meter exploded! What a great shot!

"Oh my gosh, it's just adorable!" A quote from my wife who was looking over my shoulder as this loaded. Nuff Said! (Where is the cuteness alert?)

This just doesn't get any better, Greg! :D
Love the overall soft feel and yet the baby is sharp with all the clarity possible. Yes, the water droplet too ...

What make your choice of 'fill at -3'? Care to elaborate a little? Thanks!

The 1D is pretty sensitive when it comes to flash and -3 still provided just a tiny splash of light to bring a little more detail to the tiny feathers and also helped to smooth out the water. At 1/400 it also helped (though only slightly) in freezing the movement of the bird.

Greg, this is one of your best, and that says allot!
Flipped horz, hmmm  It does make a difference.

I think both this chick and this site- will grow fast and healthy.

Best,

As perfect a shot as you've ever taken, Greg. The wave crest puts it far over the top.

That is a priceless image - cute factor off the chart. The soft waves with reflection set off this bird very very well. Drop of water is real icing on a huge cake :)

I think these are one of the most beautiful birds as adults. This little baby is just too precious for words. Terrific commentary too BTW. Both the image and the site are super!

Beauty. The quality of the water and the light are outstanding. I hate to nit an image as good as this, but the distorted reflection doesn't add anything to the image and I think that it would be even better without it.

This is a very exiting shot.

Is it swimming? I ask, because I saw little avocets some month ago that were walking rather than swimming.

Cheers
