The third week of May, last year at Pt. Pelee the Indigo Buntings were conspicuous and plentiful though rather ragged. Cloned some branches.

Ken,

You're a little hard on this bird. I like the clean BG. My only nit is how whitish is the lower portion of the beak which can readily be darkened.

Nice, clean shot, which isn't easy there. The bird is having a bad-feather day! If you had gotten lower you may have been able to eliminate some of the stump behind the bird. The only indigo bunting I ever got there was in the worst spot!

Very detailed image of some of his subtler colors as well as the bright indigo against the green. Much closer than I've been able to get of these so far.

Awesome detail and color, love the pose. Did you clone branches out along a straight line below and to the right of the bird? There is a vertical transition between gray and brown there that looks very weird.

I think the shagginess gives him personality. :)
Nice composition. a little lower would improve, IMO.

Very nice!!

And a few weeks earlier you would have had to travel another 1000 miles to see him! :) Love the iridescence of the feathers.

Maybe ragged, but still beautiful. The colors are incredible!

I really like the avatar, too, great choice!

Cool bird, great colors and details! I like the way the bird is all fluffed up and I agree with the comment about it giving him personality. I also agree with the comments about getting a little lower. It's great as is though.

Scruffy...yeah but this guy is still beautiful. I'd take any open shot like this of one of these that I could get.

Ken,

Nice shot. Love the open beak. I would be happy with an image of this species in any plumage.

Awww. What a sweet little bird. Hope you got a lot of this beastie. If you cloned in front of the bird, you might want to redo that as the straight line there sort of halts the eye.

Beautiful little bird in spite of the bad hair day. The angle is a bit high but still nice.
