This was shot the same morning as my male harrier post when the air was heavy with smoke and ash. The BG color is the water and it was 10:30 in the morning with the sun pretty high in the sky.
I'm paying the price for breathing that stuff for 4 hours as I've had a sore throat and cough ever since.

Nice capture and great exposure, now imagine what that poor little bird is being exposed to, no wonder his tongue is out as well, I am sure he had a rough time as well, Very nice!!! congrats!! 8)

There were fires in Quebec just over a year ago and we got the haze in New England. I remember the orange glow that everything had, and that I could look right at the sun at any time of the day.

This image really shows that same orange glow, in the background (hard to believe it's water) and the bird. I like the warm tones here, really nice composition too.

The color of the background really makes this image. I like how that color is repeated in the lores. The visible tongue is always a treat.

Well done!!

Cool colors. I know how you feel about the smoke and ash, I have been spending a lot of time indoors since Sunday and I'm getting a bit antsy. The air quality is supposed to improve much more today with the west winds. Love that tongue!

Tough conditions to shoot in but it does make for pretty light. I hope it doesn't last too much longer. Nice action in the shot.

Terrific colors and lighting ... sad to hear of the conditions, I am assuming this is of the fires in CA? I hadn't thought of the impact on wildlife until now, what a disaster.

Richard,
the light is fantastic, the cause disaster, but your shot really sings, or is it coughs. Anyway, I like it a lot.

Hi Richard. I really love the unique background color here along with the feather detail. Here's hoping there's an end to this disaster in the near future.
