I got this guy from almost the exact same spot as my previous post, but about 24 hours later. The earlier post was taken Saturday morning under sunny, 75 to 80 degree conditions. Saturday night a blue norther (cold front) came in. On Sunday morning when I got this, the temperature was about 50 and the sky was almost completely overcast.

I think I like this one a little better. First, this one is not a straight side-view profile like the earlier post. Second, this shot shows more behavior.

EOS 1D with 600 and 1.4X TC, ambient metering - 2/3 (ISO 400, 1/500, f8), fill-flash with BB @ - 1 2/3.

Thanks for looking. All comments welcome.

Look at those feet, they're like silver!

I love the pose and very harmonic colorpalette here :D

Very monochromatic picture. That gives it a strange and different perspectiv. I'm not sure if I like it. i think that was very hard to cath the bird in flight that so I like this pics.
Flash helped you to take the bird out of background but also maked the birds a little bit plastic (?).
I prefer natural light.
However I admit that I'd like much to do pics like you did :))

Besides the pose I really like the almost monochromatic colors here and sets this apart.

Bruce, Cool shot. Looks a little over flashed to me. Love those hanging legs.

An excellent flight shot.....of a bird that still eludes me. One more of these and I'm going to tell my principal that I'm going to Texas for a

Bruce,

Very nice shot. I like the position of the wings and the dangling legs.

Bruce,

Another floater. No matter how hard I look, I don't see the puppet strings. You're on a roll.

Bruce,

I will not open any more Avocet shots. This is just digging the knife in deep, reminding me of the missed opp this summer.

Well Done!

BTW: What % of the original image is this?

Thanks,

BZ

I thought this was converted to B&W. Just the natural colors present. Cool! 8) Nice timing on this.
