This bird has been the biggest nemesis of all for me at Magee. Some years I got 0 frames, the year before last spring I had a beautiful bird t'd up and the flash failed to fire on 3 consecutive frames. Finally, last year on International Migratory Bird Day I had many opps on this species and managed to come away with several nice ones.

Eos1v, 500mm IS, 2x II, 550ex flash as fill, Provia F100 normal. This is pretty much the full frame. Yes, I could have cloned the leaf at right but I just don't enjoy doing the digital work to my images.

Thanks for looking and for your honest critiques (yep, even about the darn little leaf!)

Good shot, Brian!
Nice pose and the balance between bird and BG is well done.
Could be a little darker on my monitor.

Beautiful bird and a nice image as is. A bit of a crop all around and leaves on the edge are gone and the bird is a little bigger in the image. Just another possibility.

Brian, I love hearing when a nemesis bird is conquered. He's a mighty handsome lad, and you've done him proud. Very fine details shown.

Very sweet Brian! Love this bird and nice clean shot. I even love the perspective here, shooting down on the bird a bit. It gives me a better view of the plumage on the back. Are you seeing an evenly spaced series of faint vertical lines in the image or do I need to go to bed?

A very nice shot of this bird. There are thin vertical lines running in parallel throughout this image.

Nice one Bri. This species has been a curse for me too. I have one image of a dead killer male, razor sharp, 2/3 frame, with his head turned totally away. In this one, the head is slightly turned away from the film plane, but it is way better than anything that I have on this species. That family jewel male bay-breast will be out there waiting for us this spring!
Also, I'd crop this one a bit from the rear. Yes, Gregory, there are lines in this scan but go to sleep anyway. I am in San Diego with all the smoke and have been up since 1:30 am Pacific Time!
Best, Artie

Brian,

Excellent shot of this beautiful warbler. I like the angle here, allowing us to see the detail on the back. The background couldn't be better.

Other then the banding which is only the scan anyway, this is a wonderful shot of a very difficult bird!!! Nice work.

Brian,

A sweet looking bird. I agree with cropping all around to increase the bird's size.

Brian,
To be honest, I would not have even noticed the leaf, because everything else is so good. I would take this one in a minute.

I think this is great Brian. A really nice clean shot. I'm amazed by some of these uncluttered warbler photos you have! ( I am also seeing the vertical lines mentioned in the background).
