WE were hiking a bit when we saw the robin quite a ways away and only carrying a 100-400, So, tripod settled in, a 2XII plus the 100-400 at 400, plus the 1.6 multiplier of a 10D, I hoped the shot would work out. I have removed some sharpening artifacts. I considered cropping to make the eye land on the UL power point, but after comparing, I liked the branches and the more environmental shot. A personal choice since the robin location is stornger, but the envoronmental element suffers with a crop. We were on a gully crest and the bird was below. For all the dificulties, I think it came out ok,IMHO.The 100-400 seems to hold decent sharpmess, at least at this file size.

Very nice pose. The background is killer. I like the uniformly gray branches and twigs. My only wish would be for a head turn toward the camera. Still, excellent as is. :)

Nice bird and clean BG. A bit oversharp (halo).

Steve.
I love the composition of this one. A head turn would be nice but then tell that to the robin.....he did everything else right. Nice shot.

I do like the way it stands out from the background. Nice composition too.

This is the crop. Iguess both work, but the uncropped shot gives a berrer feel for the environment.
