Hey Tom, not sure if your in the wrong forum, but it looks like you might be in the wrong Motif :D

Although the image is a little soft and contrasty, you have captured some great action. The water coming off the beak is amazing.

Not always easy to capture birds in action, especially difficult to get the catch of prey. I like the behavior here, but two things take away from this image for me (that might be fixed in PS if you were so inclined). The first is the "high key" water. The human eye tends to be drawn towards the lighter parts of images, and the water being so much lighter than the bird seems to compete with it for attention. The other is what seems to be a bluish color cast on the bird.

But I do like the blurred action, neat effect, and the water off the bill as Alan mentioned. Well done for a handheld 170-500, too!

Dennis, Thank you! I didn't realize what I'd done until it was too late for me to figure out how to undo it. Alan, I mistakenly sent this egret to FFM to participate in a motion study motif. Heather, I agree with your suggestions but am not all that ps savvy. I'm going back to give it another try. Thanks all.

FWIW, here it is with lots less blue. I set the white point in PS levels with the highlight eyedropper. E-mail me for directions if you'd like.

Best, Artie

ps: I like it, and yes, the water off the bill is amazing.

Hi Artie, I'm eager to learn how this was achieved. I've gotten a few of these egrets with a blue cast, and am not sure how to deal with it. I'll be in touch. I like the crop. Hope all is well. Thanks, Tom

I've never seen one do this. Nicely captured. Everything else has already been said.
