I have been working on my unprocessed images this week. I have almost discarded this photo because the gull was in the left bottom corner, but liked blurred wings and their position so I decided to work on it in PS and clone the sky to the left of the gull (about 1/4 of the width). I was suprised with the result. The golden-blue background to the right of the gull is untouched - it is probably out-of focus clouds. It was early morning golden light.

Is cloning of the sky a common practice?

The technicals:
EOS 10D + 400/5.6L handheld, ISO 200, 1/400s f5.6, the gull on original image is about 50% of the width of the frame, so it is almost equivalent to the original uncropped image.

Fero,

Somehow the soft wings and sharp body work well with the BG for a nice overall presentation. Well done.

Fero, Your PS skills are good. Well worth it. There looks like a slight blue cast on the bird to me. Very nice photo.

I think you did an excellent job of making something out of this one. It works very well. Often I revisit images from the past as I learn new PS tricks. You never know what treasures they may hold.

I've started keeping images with slight background flaws myself. Occasionally, I make good used to a clipped bird too. Tougher to do but sometimes it still works out well.

This image is sharp where it needs to be. Nice work. 8)

Excellent shot! You did a good job on the background. :) Are these gulls common in Canada, as I don`t remember seeing any when I lived there in the 80`s. They are very common here!

I like this image especially the softness and slight motion of the wings.

Thanks all for your comments,

Jeremy I took this photo in Slovakia, when visiting my family in September. I love European birds. I am here in Canada only for 5 years.
