Went to Lake Woodruff NWR. Did not get any meaningful images of warblers and no ducks were there. Had to settle for images of black vultures whch come within 10 feet of you.

I have no idea where or how he picked up this white feather.

10D, 600IS, 1.4x, EV -1.3, fill -1.3, f16 as he was only 18 feet away.

Comments and reposts welcome

Jim,

A very nice and close portrait, sharp throughout and excellent detail in the blacks. Well done.

I've had days when I'd have been thrilled to find a Black Vulture. Very nice detail and a fine portrait.

This bird looks so dignified. Even the stray white feather doesn't dampen his pride.

The detail in the black is phenomenal. I love the pose.

Excellent shot!!

A great detailed shot! I really like the use of negative space in this one.

Incredible photo; spot on exposure and the white feather is such a good contrast and an interesting feature.

Hi Jim,

I'm thinking this is a young bird? The birds I shot last year in the glades had a lighter bill tip and lighter skin on the head, especially down by the neck. Could be a spring/fall difference too.

I could just be sick as this reminds me of my 2x exposed head shots of this species. They were superimposed over head shots of a smokin' beautiful Tricolored Heron.

Lovely detail throughout, nice comp, exposure, BG, etc...

Beautiful portrait. I think (although probably in the minority) Vultures are handsome birds.

My kind of shot. Love the detail and the expression it has. A smiling Vulture, nice.
