I took this shot about noon when the light was harsh but I really liked the way the photo turned out. I think its an immature bird but no idea on species.

I like it. The perch is nice as well as the other OOF seed heads. I wish there wasn't one right next to the birds head though. I believe this is a Harris's Sparrow Rob but I'm not positive.

Sparrow's are really tough to ID sometimes. My guess would be Harris's Sparrow but that really is not an ID I am highly confident in. I'm sure others better at sparrows than I will chime in. It's an excellent photo.

I hate to be a curmudgeon here, but I am a little bothered by the OOF seeds that appear to be on the tip of the bird's beak...

Other than that, the bird is nice and sharp and the colors and background are superb!!!

This is a very beautiful image, Rob. The colors are all complentary to each other and the bird. The bill and seed pod has already been mentioned but I don't see this as an image killer. I would print it, hang it, and be proud of it. :)

Lovely bird, great exposure and lovely detail, the image merits cloning out the OOF seed heads in the BG near the bird, just my taste!! Wonderful, Congrats!!! 8)

Rob,
I really like this one! I would probably take some off of the top but just love the perch and background in addition to the bird!

Yes, a Harris' sparrow---very common here some winters. I like it for its sharpness and overall colors. I don't have one nearly this attractive!

Hi Rob,

You've handled the harsh lighting well. The bird is beautiful, the scene is a bit busy but that is where these guys live and it is not overly distracting.

I am surprised by the amount of shadow on belly and tail considering the amount of flash used.

Well done, a species I've got zip on.

I think the bird stands out fine from the background but I could see a tighter crop over all. If you do decide to clone out the offending seed head, it wouldn't bother me either.
