I've been sorting through my old slides from my first year of photography. This is one of the few I would consider keeping but I'm interested in hearing your opinions. The slide actually looks a bit nicer than the scan but try as I might, I can't seem to reproduce the look of warm light. I also think the snow color looks funny here. I should add the the strange fuzziness where the snow meets the duck's body is apparent on the slide as well. All comments are welcome! Thanks for looking. :)

Laura, your a little hard on your self. This is very nice. Looks like a perfect wood carving. I might soften the catchlight a bit.

This is certainly different. Snow crystals on the bill instead of the usual drop of water. It must be the winter light but I also really like the look of the green head feathers. Definitely a keeper.

Definitely a keeper! This is really a very nice image. We seldom see images of ducks in snow and this one works just fine.

A nice one, Laura!
It gives me a cold feel of the snow. Where was the warm light? Perhaps what was the time of day you made this shot?

Very nice shot Laura. I think Mallards are a hard subject to get right. You did great here, I really like this.

Throw it away....then add me to the list of where to throw it. This is beautiful. They may be common ducks but they are not easy to get right...and you have succeeded in a fine fashion.

Beautiful shot Laura!

It is tuff to get the ducks on clean snow over there at Castalia. It takes them only a couple of hours to crap it up after a fresh snow!!

Also, you did well to isolate a single duck, a tall order at Castalia.

I'm looking forward to getting some ducks this winter. BTW: a friend drove by the other day and said Castalia had loads of Wigeon.

Laura,
I vote differently. I think you should not keep it (but instead put it in express mail to me immediately).
Seriously, this is terrific.
