I finally got out to do a little shooting this morning. It's been so long I almost forgot where to go.

This was taken at the Port Aransas, TX Birding Center. There were hundreds of avocets, but this was one of the few that ventured my way.

EOS 1D with 600 and 1.4X TC, ambient metering - 1 stop (ISO 200, 1/500, f13), flash @ - 1 2/3.

Thanks for looking. All comments welcome.

Bruce,

I can't tell you how jealous this makes me.

I have none in non-breeding plumage and my flight shots are of blurry specks.

Size in frame, composition, and technicals on this are all right on. You did extremely well with this!!

Great flight shot! Must be nice to get out after not having photographed for a while, really nice image for your efforts. Love the stage in fight you caught the bird in, great blue sky, too.

Killer shot Bruce!

I hope Bill doesn't expect sympathy from me given his Avocet portfolio vs. mine...

Unfortunately I missed an opp similar to this while going for a scouting walk this past June. The lens was back in the car....then to torment me more the bird circled and glided past again, this time providing a beautiful top side look. I could have been sick!

Well Done Bruce!

An excellent flight shot, Bruce!
Love the blue sky bg and the downstroke wings position. The fact that this little guy was slight looking sideway and upward makes it for me ...

'Bout time you got back at it. We've missed your great shots.

This is about as nice as you could ask for.

Very nice. In my experience these guys are not easy to get in flight as they are fast, erratic flyers.
