 Short-billed Mew Gull Anchorage, Alaska My first trip to Alaska was this past July and an experience I won’t forget. Alaska is all I thought it would be from my imagination, and much more. The first morning we were there Greg, E.J. and I got up extremely early and waded out into this pond which was teeming with birds. I found the Mew Gulls quite fascinating and enjoyed photographing them. I cannot take credit for seeing this opportunity – I was photographing from a different angle when Greg suggested I take a look from where he was. The yellow background was incredible! The red orbital ring and gape and unmarked bill are marks of breeding plumage in this Mew Gull. A special thanks to Artie, who gave us some suggestions on where to photograph in Anchorage.  Digital capture with Canon 1D Canon 500 f/4 with 2x teleconverter Exposure manually set at 1/125, f/11 ISO 320 Flash at -1.3 Tripod with Wimberley Sidekick Chest waders Image comments/critiques appreciated!
