Photographing birds in flight with my D60 has been an exercise in frustration. If only I had waited a few months and got a 10D. Oh well, the 1Dx will be worth the wait.

Your ID is correct. The image is good - these small active birds don't often tolerate close approach.

When and where was this taken? Were you in a boat, or is this from land somehow?

Nice shot Robert.

A little fill on this black bird would have helped with the detail. Also, a little cropped off the bottom make a stronger image.

great action. Alan

My nits are already addressed. I really like the sequence of splashes that lead you to the bird.

Richard,

Thanks for the ID confirmation. Yes it was taken from a boat near Eastern Egg Island, off the coast of Maine, middle of July.

Nice action shot....these guys are difficult to do in any position. I think you may have made a wise choice in waiting for the next 1D version. I don't think that the 10D is that much better than the D60.

Very cool shot - I can just see those little feet motoring to get going. In a perfect worls the bird would not be turned away but I still like it.

Yes, I like the action, too. Would be clueless about offering any suggestions for improvements as I would be thrilled to get this.
