Hi everyone,

I took this last June near Ellensburg, WA. I guess I'll start the critique process by saying I really don't like the OOF branch and I was going to clone it out until I realized its the branch the bird is sitting on
The OOF branch crossing the foliage in the lower left is also distracting.

Any other thoughts?

Shutter speed unrecorded at f5.6
Provia 100 pushed one stop

Thanks, this is a wonderful group! I can't believe how much I've learned from you guys in just the last week since I joined.

A "cleaner" perch and some fill flash would have helped. The catchlight and head turn is nice.
Good one.

I am so in love with those creatures that it's hard to explain, you talk about OOF branches, I just see a wonderful morsel of a bird!!! Congrats!!! 8)

A quail off the ground can be hard to get so it's very nice from that respect. The head turn is very good too.

Michael,

The items you mentioned are minor nits to an otherwise excellent image. The background is awesome and the light is sweet. I really love the pose.

Nice shot with an outstanding background. If I had to come up with one minor point I would like to see more room at the tail. Thanks for posting this one.

Michael. your a little hard on yourself. This is a great image. Provia pushed a stop, is hard on images with blacks in them. They get a little contrasty. Nice photo.

I love the background in this one. I think you've already covered the nits but I still think this is pretty nice! :)

You've already said it all. Still nice considering the conditions.
