Ok, I have lurked around your website for several weeks now and I have been impressed and a bit intimidated by the quality of the work shown here. Anyway, I could not stand not being able to join in the fun....

So, here is my first post...now the caveat is that this picture is obviously not up to snuff technically. Since I could not compete with the amazing pelicans here...I went for the unusual....a lechwe leaping over pelicans... :D This was taken in Moremi National Park in Botswana several years ago and is actually an illusion they were jumping over a small ditch in front of the pelicans.

So, hello again. I'm looking forward to soaking up all of the accumulated knowledge here at Naturescapes. In the meantime, I am off to the cliffs to work on my pelicans...perhaps I will get something better to post.

To paraphrase Jay Maisel in this month's Digital Pro Photo Magazine, often content is more important than form.
As you said the technicals are not great, but the content is.

I wonder if AlexC is going to make an Evel Knievel reference.

What an exceptional moment you caught!!

Welcome to NSN. Don't be intimidated by what you see. We all had to start posting sometime. It gets easier as you go along.

Cool shot and welcome aboard!!

Jeff,

Welcome to NSN. A great first post. Funny photo. Looks like a headless bird on the left behind the Pelicans. :)

Leaping lechwes! Shot cracks me up. Out of curiousity, can you tell me what are the birds in the upper left corner?

Jeff, Welcome to the Feather Sanatorium, were every feather must accounted for, and all blown out whites justified and or explained to our satisfaction, unless a confirmed alcoholic no color shifts will be allowed either, If you can't repeat this feat of levitating cows over pelicans on a reliable and predictable manner, these images should be avoided at all cost !! You have been duly warned!!!, And if you think I have been unduly harsh, wait until Sandy gets thru with you!!!
Nice trick!!! 8)

Ok, wow...thank you everyone... I promise that all of my non-brilliant photographic efforts will be humorous...and I reserve the right to lable any shots as non-brilliant at anytime in the past or present... :D

Second, to Rich S and Alan Murphy, the interesting image in the corner is a Marabou Stork that didn't want to be to be seen flirting with pelicans...

And AlexC, I almost never consume beverages that might effect or affect ( I get those confused.) my photography unless it is during a week day. Of course, the weekend requires that one indulge as needed to "see" clearly and or recover from the weekday and so this has an exception under rule 32.... As soon as my upload limit is passed, I will post a repeat (in equally poor quality) of the levitating lechwe (or cow) and we will see....you think they are tough on pelicans....this may have to go in the fauna group... :-)

Cheers and thank you for the warm welcome....

Jeff, thanks for the response but I was curious about the one(s) in the bush in the top left. It looks like a raptor but I can't tell what type.

Neat image. Don't mind Alex, he's a little crazy at times. I very much like what's going on in this image.
