American White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos; Pierre, South Dakota

White pelicans migrate through my part of the state but tend to congregate along the Missouri R. or on glacial lakes more to the north and in the central part of the state. It's always fun to practice flight shots as these birds are big and somewhat steady. EOS 3, 500/4 IS, 2xIITC, 1/500 (?) at f/8. Exposure metered off the grass but am unable to find the exact info. Comments are appreciated; thanks in advance!

I am surprised they don't stop there in the summer as they are all over Wyoming which is a neighbor.

This is a very nice shot.

Well done image, Juli. Excellent detail for this size. I might like the bird about 50% larger in the frame.

Beautiful colors in this flight shot. I like the tucked in wings in its flight pattern. Wish I had a White Pelican flight shot, these guys are not easy. :)

Nice shot. I have to agree about the image being just a touch oversaturated but no biggie.

I like the size of the pelican in the frame, it doesn't look small to me, but I agree it looks a little over saturated though.

Juli, very well done, and I like the birds size relative to the environment.

Great flight shot. I like the size in the frame.
Agree that it's a tiny bit saturated.

I've tried a lot of Pelican flight shots, singles and groups, and I've only got one that I really like.

Beautiful skies to fly in. I certainly don't mind the pelican being relatively small, for he stands out so well.
