Bosque del Apache, NM

When I saw this spot in the sky, I knew I had my window of opportunity. I now need only track the birds to this spot before firing the shutter.

D1X, 400AFS f/2.8
exposure- incident (no comp)

Best and see you in the field,

Chas

One of the better SH Crane flight shots against the sky that I've seen as it is very different and the birds aren't slhouetted.

Background is wonderful and the cranes were suitably cooperative! Very serene feel.

Well seen and executed. Love the layers and the fact that the birds are in the layers. Very pretty image!

Whow.....OUTSTANDING display of color in the background....almost looks like a painting (a very expensive one :) ) and the cranes are perfectly spaces as not to distract from each other. Great shot Charlie!

Very sweet Chas. For some reason the image shows some noise and the bird's heads look a tad soft but the colors and comp are wonderful!

Greg, probably ISO 400, and not enough sharpening :) .

Tony, sarcasm? Waiting for the birds to seperate and not overlap is key. I have others with them a bit closer and with better wing position, but this appears to have better balance overall.

Best,

Chas

Great timing and great job of preplanning the shot. I really love the colors.

No, that's not the way I meant it. I am constantly amazed at how random things can happen. Based on the number of cranes in the area, I'm sure this only took a small amount of patience to get the shot to work.

One day, while viewing the sun with a solar filter through my 500mm and a 3x converter, a jet flew perfectly though the sun while I was looking. Had I gotten that shot the way I saw that shot, it would have stunning. However, no amount of waiting for the rest of the afternoon produced a similar event and I couldn't plan that if I wanted to.

So I celebrate the little random events in life and that's all I was doing here. I simply liked the way everything came together.
