I love the bird's position. The blue sky really makes the colors pop! Wonderful shot.

Well worth all the driving and climbing. I've never seen one from above.
Great image. Never having been to Hawk's Ridge before, I 'd like to know how much vertical elevation you gained with the climb.

I don't know how it could be any better. The stunning red on the tail does catch your eye. The position of the bird in the sky with the curved wings si outstanding.

Jim, This was near Hawk Mt in PA and not Hawk Ridge which the famous one that I normally go to every year in Duluth MN. I really don't know how much elevation gain there was but it was a steady uphill hike for about an hour and a half. Started out pretty cool with lots of layers and ended up with a t-shirt at the end if that tells you anything! If I wasn't carrying a pack with food, water, 2 bodies, a 400 f5.6 and 300 f2.8 plus a bit of misc gear it might have gone a bit faster :). Only took 45 minutes coming down :D

If you go to the official hawk watch at Hawk Mt you pretty much drive to the top of the ridge although there is still a fairly easy walk to the 2 lookouts.

A fine shot, Jim. The tail rules supreme.

Jim,
No mystery how this guy got his name. I would say your efforts were rewarded.
