These beauties spend a good amount of time preening while roosting on the cliffs. When preening the undersideof their wings, they turn their heads upside down to get that bill at the right angle. So I put on the TC and tried to show off those lovely head feathers. Cropped less than 10%. La Jolla, 1-31-03.

Very nice but I think it could be use about 1/3 or 2/3 less exposure, or a little more work in PS with saturation, or lightness/darkness.
Then it would be great.

I love the pose on this guy along with the detail. I, too think it might benefit from a touch of contrast or something from PS. Then again...I'm viewing this one from a Powerbook so it just may be my computer. I'd say the slide is a killer.....I imagine that scanning this one was hard. Excellent shot.

Good detail with all the nuances of the Pelican sharply defined. Graceful turn of the head.

Hi Mike,

What a contortionist!! Great capture. I think the exposure looks fine here, I wouldn't want it any darker. Possibly a little contrast boost or some extra saturation would be beneficial.

I read your gear and have flash backs to a couple of years ago. I just loved my 500 f/4P and N90s. Man that lens is sharp, even with my always attatched Kenko 2x!!

Nice job!

Very interesting pose. The feather detail was captured very well. A contrast boost of 15% in PS works for my taste -or lack thereof. :D

I'll bet you're loving Pelican Week. Very nice!!

Mike,

This is a very nice shot and composition. Sharp with lots of detail. You did a great job with the scan too. The colors look good, but maybe a bit more contrast.

Mike,

Great pose captured. The problem is for some reason I keep wanting to turn my head sideways to look at it :D . BTW, the contrast looks OK on my monitor.

Thanks for your feedback about the contrast. I played with this one a long time to get the color balance right and I just couldn't get the image to match the slide. I added some contrast to this repost and it is much better, thanks.

Very good image, Mike.

The only thing that I was going to comment on was the contrast and your repost took care of that.

The unusual pose is neat and the techs look very good to me.
