Black-Capped Vireo Texas Hill Country

This was one of my target birds for many years. A highly localized and endangered species only found in the Hill country of Texas. The day I photographed it was the first day I had ever seen one. They are so jumpy, I was happy to get this clean shot.

Nikon F5, 600/4, 1.4X, Dual SB28 flashes (removed second catchlight) Sensia 100. (If this has a cast to it, I welcome an adjusted repost)

For something so rare, looks like you were all set to capture it well. I don't know what this guy's supposed to look like so I'm reluctant to suggest if there's a cast. My procedure now, as someone who had (has?) a frequent issue, is push the hues slider WAAAY up and see if colors appear that shouldn't. For me, blue is more often the issue and if it shows up on fur or other places where it doesn't belong, then it's time to readjust.

Wonderful bird, nice perch, nice detail and good fill, there is what looks to me like a slight magenta cast, not knowing this bird it is for me hard to say!!, I have told Guido not to go after you, it will be easier to go after all these little birds!!! Congrats!! 8)

Alan, a lovely shot. I put the image into PS and found a cyan and magenta color cast. On the RGB scale, the cast is predominantly blue. This is easily corrected.

What a cool bird and a great photo. Your magenta cast is back though.

Despite the slight cast, it's great that you have such a good photo of this rare bird. Well executed indeed.

Great catch of this good looking bird! Folks are right about your magenta cast being back. This looks a little over-flashed to me but I wish it was mine!

A very nice image of a rare bird I've yet to see.

I agree about the very noticeable color cast. Use the white eyedropper in Photo Shop Levels to neutralize a lot of this. Set it to 240 and click on the throat - it will take out a lot of the excessive blue that makes this look off color. When I did this, it moved the red slider in from 255 to 224, and the green dropped from 255 to 207.

Great shot of a bird I've not seen. A little PS and this one rocks.

Outstanding shot of a species that ranks high on my wish list to be added onto my lifelist. I've seen this or possibly another of you stunning photos of this species in publications. This scan doesn't quite do it justice.

Wonderful shot. Very nice pose and background. I too see the cast. A tweak in PS curves would fix it. I would post a tweak but I don't have the full version of PS here.

Juli, yes, this is the Black- Capped Lavendar Vireo :D ...I wish. My scanner is scaning everything with a magenta cast. I mess with it in PS to where my eyes can't tell anymore. The slide is better.
