This was a grab shot as these geese flew into the pond where I was trying to photograph Swamp sparrows. I did have the flash on but they were too far away. What do you think?
EOS 1Ds, 500mm f/4 IS, 1.4XTC, f/14, 1/1000sec, ISO 200, 0EV compensation and FF with BB at -1.7EV. In PS, levels, USM and cropped.

Will, This has some hard shadows and it could do with a little more room on the right. Love the second bird calling. Cool shot.

What a fun shot Wil. This is one that would be hard to resist. I'm assuming the flash was set to -1.7 for the swamp sparrows, the geese made a fly-by and you didn't have time to adjust the flash compensation. I'm wondering if flash comp. at 0 would have been enough to open up under the wings. Sorry about the ramble, I'm just thinking out loud. ;)

The size and positions in the frame are nice. Maybe a little more space on the right and I too, love the rear bird calling.

A very nice shot!!

Lovely couple in flight, The exposure is close to what the eye sees, lovely wing positions on both, and nice detail as well!! Congrats!! 8)

One bird in flight is hard to get.....two in focus and one calling makes it a grand shot. You did an excellent job for a grab shot....I like it.

Wil -

I agree with Alan about the shadows.
Nice flight action and the calling goose makes it.

I love the calling goose. It is almost as he is saying wait up! Both birds being in focus is wonderful!

I like the comp and calling goose, I'm not sure the flash at 0 would have helped at the distance and focal length. At f/14 the flash wouldn't have enough reach.

Wil,

Nice shot. The position of the two birds makes for a nice composition. I like the crop that you selected.

Nice shot for a grab shot with the birds well position in the frame. The shadows could not be helped if they were too far away for F. I've been in that situation many times.

It's really only when you try to do this, can you apprciate the magic of flight shots. These guys, especially so! Really nice capture!

Everytime Canada's fly over me I'm in the middle of shooting white birds. You did a pretty good job here and I would have taken the shot too.
