I went to the pond to shoot Wood Ducks but they stayed away. The lighting from the low sun reflected off the bull rushes which had turned yellow, was to nice not to take advantage of so I made do with this Mallard. The mallards have a "different" Iridescence about the head this time of the year. No flash used as this one is about the BG as well as the FG.

Ken,

Awesome photo. Love the green BG and the expression on the ducks face. It looks a little flat to me, maybe some added contrast.

Lovely image, Ken. I know why you wanted to preserve the BG.

Give this guy a few weeks and he will look awesome - this is clearly an excellent specimen, just not quite in peak plumage yet. This bird has an exceptional bill! Nice shot!!!

Good choice to not use flash in this instance. The water drops on and around the head may have turned into overexposed white blobs. That background is definitely killer. :)

One of the best Mallard portraits I have ever seen! The outstretched neck with the head turned towards you is perfect and the bg is what we all would love to have. Good stuff.

A truly excellent closeup shot with razor sharp detail. Could possibly be warmed up a bit or maybe a bit more contrast but still a killer shot.

I have to agree with Alan, I'd like the mid tones to be a bit deeper. Other than that nit, I really like this. :D
