During one of the only brief breaks in the rainy weather of western Washington during my visit last week, the sun actually broke from the clouds, the rain stopped, and 3 rainbows appeared simultaneously. It was rather remarkable looking. This Heerman's Gull landed on a rock directly in front of one of the rainbows, so I crept up close and snapped a few shots with the rainbow taking up almost all of the background. This is the result.

Chris,

Very nice indeed, first time I have seen a rainbow used this way. Holding back on the flash allowed the BG colors to be bright. Well done.

A most interesting BG. I hope you have some images with the whole bird as well.

Good thinking to use a rainbow for the background. It adds a nice touch of color to the shot. The placement of the colors behind the bird add to the effect, IMHO.

Very nice! I don't know that I would have thought to use the rainbow for a bg! Way to go!
