Black Bellied Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis)

This could any one of the so named Joey's BBWD at the Old Crandon Park Zoo grounds, A total of six birds, inclusive of parents were in the process of rebuilding their local stock, But unfortunately already three of these wonderful birds have been lost to a pair of American Crocodiles who have
"wondered "into this wonderful refuge, Protected by Federal Law the Crocks can not be molested or removed, so if something is not done soon all these birds will be gone for good, Already a total of 30+ birds have been lost to the dynamic duo in the past two months.
For a while now there has been a political battle between the proponents of turning this refuge into some sort of an amusement park and those who would like to keep it as is, a quiet retreat for people and birds, We suspect that the Crocs have been deliberately introduced into this protected habitat, although they do inhabit the western shore of Key Biscayne, there is no possible way for them to cross the heavily traveled road , dig under fences or climb the same, In the end, I, suspect that we'll all be losers in this irreconcilable dispute between City planners and local residents!!
What a shame!!!

It's a very nice shot of a BBWD! FWIW I'd like a smidge more room at the bottom, enough for the feet even though we can't see them. But it works as is. Is that a lawn it's on?
If so, I can understand why you would want to minimize it in the image.

Lillian, There is room for it's virtual feet, they don't have long legs per say, but it might look a little short, but it is not!!, This is grass that grows on the sides of the pond, but it does get mowed ever so often, but it is not a lawn per say!! Thanks for looking!!!

What a shame - sums it up for me too. They are such beautiful ducks.
This is a very nice image of this guy.

Alex,

Sweet photo of a handsome Duck. Is this bird captive with clipped wings?

Could take a bit off the right, but great as is. The point of focus look like its on the neck and back, as the head looks a tad soft to me. Love the BG.

Allan, Very much a wild bird, they come and go as they please, very approachable due to the peaceful habitat they live in, As to the focus, it is on the head, I just softened the edges due to jaggies around his beak and head, and therefore the soft feel to it, I always try to focus on the eye of the bird!!, Thanks for looking!!!

Which ever Joey it is .... he is certainly a beauty. Nice pose and beautiful colors. Such a shame that politics have to play such a part in the lives of birds and other animals. I do hope that enough key players for the birds will be able to get this resolved. Another wonderful bird with a touching story.

A beauty, Alex. I might like him a bit farther right in the frame. Where were you hiding this shot? You've become very secretive. Okay, I'll take you to Wako.

BTW, Wako is closed for boardwalk repairs for much of the next two weeks. We'll go after that.

Alex- A really lovely shot. I love the lighting in this one and the over the shoulder look the bird has. What a rotten predicament. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the local residents.

One of the nicest BBWD images I've seen. I don't mind the grass and the BG is wonderful.

Lovely shot of this duck. I like the over shoulder look since the back of the duck is sharp.

What an impressive image of this beauty. I agree a crop from the right would help a bit. Thanks for the info about these guys, darn crocks.
