I used the advice from a previous post to capture a nicer angle. Early morning sun was available but flash was not. The Rusty Blackbird, a bird of the north, inhabits wooded wetlands of Canada. This was taken in an Adirondack boreal bog, during its southern migration. Canon 10D, 100-400 plus 1.4TC, F8, handheld, ISO 400. Second post of this species.

Jeff,

Great shot. Love the wingstretch. Nice looking stump. I would like to see more detail in the blacks, Flash or PS, either way. Good comp.

What an interesting pose. The moss covered perch is very nice. I agree that a little more illumination under the tail would help. Still, a very nice image. :)

I didn't see the other post, but I like this one. It has enough detail to be interesting; flash might have blown out the stump, or cast a shadow on the tail.

You have a great pose and wonderful perch for this one. You might be able to selectively choose the bird and try to bring up some more detail but it sure looks awfully good to me as is.

Looks like the detail is available in the shadows. I'd bring it out with photoshop. A flash would have save you some effort but it's certainly not too much for this image. Great pose and perch. :D
