Rather than scan some of my California pelican images from 2 years ago, I concentrated on getting pelicans yesterday at Fort DeSoto. Not only did I get images of pelicans, but even flight images of sandwich and forsters terns as they hovered and then dove into the shallow ocean waters during a feeding frenzy.

I tried to get pelican images as they dove into the water and failed miserably. All I got was the splash. I then decided to try and capture the lift off. This is the best of the captures just after his feet clear the water. I'd like a little more space in front.

Hey Jim, I agree with you on the space in front, other than that, this is a great image with incredible sharpness for a flight shot.

Graceful lines and the detail in the blacks is very good. Nicely done.

ropping a hair off the left and top brings the composition into balance. Overall a very nice shot though!

Very nice....I didn't get to Ft. Desoto when I was in Florida last year but I'll certainly try for it this year. I think you did very well....I too tried for them diving and failed miserably last year....never thought about trying the take off. Good job!

Excellent! Nice sharpness and exposure and a great pose. E.J.'s cropping suggestion is right on target.

I do have a dive image that I plan on posting next. But I don't have the well timed entry where the bird is just starting to go into the water. I ended up with just wings or right before the entry.

This image is right on. Wonderful and well planned timing. I'd go with E.J.'s plan. :D
