Image
Canon 1D
600F4 IS, 1.4tc
ISO 800
Evaluative Metering @-1
1/16000 @F5.6
Auto White Balance

When converting the image from raw I dialed in an extra -1/3 compensation as there is another pelican in the middle of the image that I wanted to hide.
Converted to SRGB and then saved for the web.

I took this yesterday morning at Ft. Desoto East Beach Turnaround. When I logged on I realized the Motif had changed, but was glad this still qualified.

Harvey:

I was wondering who that guy was--I took off in a rush hoping to find some spoonbills at the North Beach. I missed the spoonbills but found Jim Urbach...and a few good birds too.

The colors of the sun are wonderful. I love where the pelican is placed within the disc. Maybe a little more room on the right but that is just personal preference.

Way cool. 8)

As a Sun lover I really love this shot.

Actually I think this is excellent. I think the moment couldn't be more perfect. If the wing(s) would be present it would not have this typical Pelican look.

It could use some more space on the right though.

Cheers

Very cool!!! Excellent shutter timing - this is a shot that probably wouldn't be possible with a longer shutter delay camera - on a 10D the bird would be by the sun by the time the shutter actually tripped as its lag is almost 3x the lag of the 1D.

Very cool! I'd crop this to a narrow vertical.

Two Motifs in one :)

Great shot rocky. I would add some canvas on the right putting the sun 1/3 of the way into the frame.

Sweet one, Rocky. This is good enough to add the canvas on the right that Alan suggested.

Thanks for all of the replies--I am definitely planning on adding some space to the right. To thos not familiary with Fort Desoto, the towers of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge are immediately to the right. The roadway is underneath the image.

I missed one like this recently when I had 1000mm on the camera and a snow goose in the sun. Nothing more annoying than realizing you just missed a great shot.
I would have preferred slightly more room to the right but this isn't bad at all. Very nice. :D
