Everything here is excellent except that the maximum size on NSN is suppose to be 120K. :D Great composition.

Oh dear! I apologize. Since I am hosting the shot at my own site, I had no idea there was a K limit! I guess I better read the guidelines more carefully. It won't happen again. Thanks, Bill

I like how there is just enough of the wings/back to provide a base for the rest of the image.

Very nice!!

Very nicely done. I like this shot a lot. As for the file size thing, since you are hosting your own shot its not that big of a deal but we would still like to keep the sizes down to 120K to facilitate those on slower modem dial-up connections.

I like this a lot too Bill! I would like to see more detail in the blacks which could have been done with a touch of fill. (I know you do not use flash, but I still feel the same way ;) )

As for the image size here is the official (though admittedly unwritten) rule: 120KB is the limit for uploading to our server, but if you host your own image it can be larger. However, we encourage you to keep images close to 120KB (or smaller) so that others can download them quickly, especially those using dial-up.

Glad to have you here Bill! Your imagery is showing great improvement and your artistic eye is evident.

Thanks Greg. I keep trying to improve. As to use of flash, I think the great challenge of photography is to use the light that God gives us, artificial light, while a great technique, is unnatural, not part of nature, and disturbs the creatures we seek to capture in a split second of time. For me, that is the challenge, find the light, use it, and then, go and do better. Maybe that will keep me from becoming a better photographer, maybe not, I know the light is there, the real challenge is to find it.

I appreciate the encouragement. Anthony has been splendid as a moderator, offering advice and going out of his way to be helpful. I am here to stay, and here to learn from the great, the really great photographers of the world.

Best regards,
Bill Lockhart

Bill, this is so good. I wonder if the whole thing could go a little lighter?

Yes it can go lighter. I purposely darkened the graph. It is an artistic preference, if you will. The bird is dark, not light, the atmosphere of the graph lends itself to being dark. I guess I have a like for the "dark side" of photography, to me, there is elegance there.
