Nesting Kittiwakes on cliff ledge last year, shot from bobbing boat . Cropped about 1/3 off bottom and top for composition.

I like the crop and you almost pulled off all the bird's heads in the open. I would have liked some catch lights though.

For as many birds as there are in this shot you did very well to keep the heads separated. I agree, catchlights would have brought this one up a notch or two but it is still very nice as is. :)

Catchlights would have been nice but given my experience in shooting from a boat....any image that is reasonable clear is a keeper. I think you did very well....considering the bobbing of the boat.
