Another one from Pt. Pelee this year in the third week of May. Myself and another photographer took advantage of a sapling that had been loaded with orange slices by absent birders. One of my first shots with the digital camera. Some minor cloning of a branch. Croped from horizontal.

I'd be happy with this if it was one of the first images I took with my digital camera. :D I looks like you focused so far forward that only the head is in focus even though you stopped down. Still it is sharp where it needs to be. Nice crop too.

Some of us mere mortals have to make do with manual focus (f4.5 x 1.4 = 6.3), thus the 10D will not AF with a TC) I tried to use a wider DOF than normal as the bird was hopping from branch to branch and this was the only way of getting some keepers. Darn frustrating as most of my misses are do to lack of AF.

Nice and sharp on the head. I see a few sharpening artifacts on the perch.
This guy has some great color. Some of the ones I've had around lately are still a bit ragged.

Great detail. It's always a challenge to bring out a black eye surrounded by black plumage, but you have done it here.
Overall, the top half of the image is A-plus, but the bottom half falls off a bit, due to the stub of branch intruding between his feet, and the blocking of a large part of the tail. But that's where the bird choosed to sit and there's not much you can do about it.
Still, it's a lot better than any oriole shots I have.

Very impressive for manual focus!! The sharpness and detail on the head is great. I too would like to see more of the tail but under the circumstances...that would seem a bit greedy.

Great shot using "manual" focus. I would love to have a chance at one of these.

This is a great shot....and with the 10D and manual focus it's amazing. They hardly sit still long enough to get any kind of shot, much less worry about manual focus. You did an excellent job with this one.

Very nice Ken. Fills the frame without being overly large in it.

Very nice Ken. I like the clean background and position in the frame with head across to the other side... Excellent.

Ken, a beautiful shot with great clarity. F11 was an excellent choice.
