Photo taken in Stone Harbor NJ, last weekend. I could not quite figure out the ID of this one, I thought on Dunlin at first, but then I'm still hesitating and I think it's a Curlew. Anyone can help?

Nice, over the shoulder look. I never try to ID since I'm awful at it. My only nit in the image is the big brown blob in the background, it a bit distracting. Good angle of view here.

Attila, the strong white line over the eye makes it a Curlew Sandpiper for me.

I would like to see more of the long legs and the OOF bird is distracting. You got a good pose here at a low perspective. Nice shot.

Attila -

That bill looks curlew sandpiper-ish to me. I don't think the dunlin bill has an arc like this. Were there reports of curlew sand there at the time?

Great find!!

Attila,

Appears to be a Curlew to me. The white eyebrow is less conspicuous on a Dunlin typically. Whites lack detail in this image.

Not sure about the ID. I'm with Alan ..more feet and I'd lose the OOF bird in the bg.
The green moss works well for me.

The curlew ID works for me, Sibley says they prefer freshwater. Very nice either way.

Thanks for the comments all.. Not sure on the bird reports from the locale for that day, all the birders were looking for a different curlew (a long billed one, which I did not see). This one did not hang out with the large Dunlin flcok in the area, rather it was mixing with the BB Plovers.
