Red-headed Woodpecker

The bird not me...I'm the grey-headed stranger. :D
My work has been too busy and my time with the camera has been too sparse.
On the bright side, I scrapped my dialup internet connection this week for a satellite connection and set up a wireless lan. Now I can at least comment w/o waiting 2 minutes for photos to download.
Back to the red-headedwp...this was taken early last summer.
D1X 300/2.8 2X 1/350 f9.5 400ISO SB80DX Slight crop to compose.

Hopefully I can spend more time on a forum in the coming months.

Comments appreciated.
Enjoy,
Chip

I've been wondering how and where you have been. Glad to see you back. :)

Beautiful WP shot. I love the pose. Great exposure and detail. The separation from the bg is nice too.

Glad you're back...and got a faster hookup. Love the Red Headed Woodie. I tried all summer to get a decent shot of one....no luck. You did great with this one.

These are gorgeous birds - I saw my first one just two weeks ago - unfortunatelt flying - AWAY. :) Beautiful image. On my monitor the BG looks really bright, though I am not "calibrated" and just learned flat screens are the worst for trueness of color and satuation. Nice to see you!

Nice shot Chip. Not an easy bird to get. A stronger catchlight would help and a little more USM. Nice photo.

Hi Chip. It's nice to see you posting here- I've always enjoyed your images! Really nice shot of a great bird I can never get close to. I love seeing the little feet and the head turn is great.

Beautiful bird would love to see the background darker but the again I'd gladly take this as I have nothing on this bird.

Hey Chip,

Good to see you back!

I like this a lot, but agree that a tad more USM would help. The high key style shot appeals to me more and more .. nice.

Cheers

Carl

Chip, high key may not be my thing, but this is excellent. I suspected you had a thing for redheads. Stop loafing and start working on your photography again.
