Brown Pelican (California race), LaJolla, CA

Heather and I were just discussing how long we were going to be in California come January and then I noticed that it’s pelican week around here. While this upcoming trip is mostly for waterfowl this was taken two years ago at LaJolla cliffs.

Don’t be afraid to cut off bills when the composition calls for it ;)

P.S. I have a large print of this in my home. It is likey the sharpest print I have ever made, digital or otherwise.

EOS 1V, EF 600/4L IS, 1.4 TC, Velvia pushed 1 stop @ ISO 100.

Not that unconventional - at least to me since I have taken a bunch of shots like this too :) This is very nice with excellent sharpness and color.

The slide must be deadly sharp  to get this kind of detail from a scan.

Killer composition. The colors really rock!!

Greg, we said Pelican. Not a tiny part of a pelican. (Although I've seen closer from you. ) Nice composition! :D

Greg- This is simply tasty. Early light at La Jolla on such a colorful beast, with Velvia +1. Magic. I love this pelican theme.

Beautiful job, Greg. Now for me unconventional is getting ALL the bird in a shot like this. Great job!

Sharp, beautiful light and a great combo of colors. The scan looks great but I'm sure the slide is over-the-top!

Man that is sharp! I'm just glad that I was wearing glasses or I could have been injured
