Canon D30 100-400 IS @ 400 1/3000 F8 ISO400 (oops)

Another "coulda been" shot messed up by not checking the camera settings. I had been attempting to photograph a Cooper's Hawk in the shadows nearby. When I came back out into the bright sun, I forgot to reset to ISO100. Oh well, at least I held the whites faily well :)

Saved by neatimage, it even prints fairly well up to 8x12. Slight crop off the top, curves, Neatimage.

Steve, This is awesome. Love that water. You handled the exposure well. A great photo.

This was taken just outside of Downtown Calgary on the Bow river.
There's a weir which diverts water from the Bow for irrigation east of the city, and the Pelicans and Cormorants love to fish there.

I'll post an environmental shot from this location as my next motif image.

I'm amazed by the DOF on this shot. Its an outstanding White Peli in flight shot - one of the better ones I've seen. Very well done!!!

Given the D30/D60 focus ability, this couldn't have happened. Wonderful shot.

Steve,

This is very nice. I like the way the water tilts in one direction and the Pelican is tilting the opposite.

I think this is fantastic. I love the slightly diagonal waves as well as the framing of the Pelican. Very, very nice!

Steve,

Great capture. I especially like the difference between his wing slant and the wave slant.

This is a sweet flight shot - he looks like he's going to fall from the sky! I have never seen a pelican, so I am enjoying this weeks motif. Really nice image.

I love the color of the water although it tells me this wasn't the best time of day to be shooting birds. :) Still the shadowing under the wings isn't bad and as you said you saved the detail in the white. Better luck next time on remembering your camera settings.

I love that deep blue water as a backdrop for this white pelican. The positioning of the bird in the frame is excellent and the exposure on the whites looks good.

I love the in focus 'transparent' water and sharp bird. One of the few occasions where I have seen full sunlight boosting picture. Well done!!
