(Brown Pelican) Yelapa, Mexico

Last year a friend and I tried to get to an sunset Annular eclipse visible from El Chimo, Mexico right out side of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We stayed in Yelapa, Mexico a few miles by water taxi from both Puerto Vallarta and El Chimo. (Closer to El Chimo. ) Everything worked out well except a tropical storm decided to be off the coast during the evening of the eclipse.

During the several days in the cabins, I spent some time taking some pictures in the quiet little village with no cars. (Remember, I had to travel to Yelapa by water taxi.) I was not quite into bird photography then but I did spend some time photographing the local wildlife.

Handheld Nikon D1H, 80-400 VR, ISO 200, Aperture Priority, 1/320 @ F11, SB-80DX, BB. Cropped to about 80% full height.

Cool shot, love the colour of the perch.
I hope to get to La Jolla to photograph these guys one day, too bad my client in San Diego went out of business... :(

The pelicans at Puerto Vallerta seem to dive from higher heights than anywahere else I've been. Really nice shot.

Hi Tony, I really like this one. It is very sharp, the head position is perfect, the pose and the perch are way cool, and I love the background. Best, Artie

Tony,

Very nice shot. That rock makes a great perch.

Well done with the flash. I have not seen many shots showing pelicans molting into their winter plumage. Nice.

Love the perch. This looks great for someone who wasn't "into bird photography"! I like this one quite a bit.

This was taken before my first "Avian" workshop. I have a number of EHK and Landscape images from that trip as well as many Hummingbird shots that are way too small in the frame. After 2.5 days of trying to get hummingbirds, I was very used to having the flash on the camera. So when this big target became available, it was a no brainer. :D

Very nice! I love how the colors in the rock perch highlight the colors of the pelican. Feather details and wonderful and the light colored background works well.

I'm not sure what I would have prefered seeing. I guess the eclipse :D

I love your pelican and the way it sits on the rock. Eye level is fine with me. The only thing for me is that the BG could be a nibble darker esp above its head. But hey, I wished I had shots of these guys.

Cheers

God detail, color rendition and the rock is nice and a welcome relief from seeing them usually sitting on a post.
