Another workshop post. Although I do not like the black background for "daytime" subjects, it helps the subject stand out. Sweet light and a bit of patience is all it takes sometimes. Thanks for looking.

Hi, James! Super light on this bird, and the dark background does really help to make it stand out even more. A little more room in front of the bird would be nice. Great "fluffed up" look of the bird. I didn't do very well with the more elusive Cattle Egrets in May and would be thrilled to have taken something this good.

James,

Great light and as Heather said, the black BG makes the bird standout.

The CE really pops off of that dark bg. I agree with more room in front but I'd take this one in a heartbeat. :)

A bird this well photographed deserves a litle more "breathing room" in front of his face. And one nice thing about a black background (or any plain background for that matter) is that it makes it easy to add more room to the canvas and clone in more background.

Wonderful light and great detail, dark BG is very nice as well, A horizontal format or the bird slightly lower in frame would have been nice as well!!!
Congrats!! Well done!! 8)

Hey james,

Great exposure and detail. A little tight but a good photo.

Very ncie detail throughout. The dark (not black) BG does not bother me. I agree a little more room in front of the bill would be nicer but it is a great image.

Sign me up for some room in front, but also put me down as loving the detail in the bird. Great color.

I like the shot as is - could take or leave more room in front - would wish for a slight angle change to the bird so that the bill doesn't look to be going away at a slight angle.

A little more room up front would be nice but the detail is excellent. I really like the dark BG to bring out the best in this guy. Very nice.

The black BG is seldom desirable but works very well with this off white rust ybird. A bit more of a head/body turn would improve it but very nice as is.

Nice light and pose. Just might enefit from a bit more room in front of the bird.
