Ostrich
Captive
EOS30, Sigma 100-300 F4, Provia 100F, Handheld, crop

It does seem strange to look up to a bird! but these Ostriches just tower over you so you have no choice. Fascinating to watch and such characters, and yes - they do bury their heads in the sand, as you can see from this image!! :)

Very nice portrait. The detail is great. It's not always easy to get a nice background with captive birds, but you did well here.

I really like this Carol. About 10 years ago my mother and I were driving through a small Ohio farm community when we turned the corner to see about 10 of these birds running through a field. Never having seen Ostrich, we both thought we'd stepped into another world! A farmer had left his fence open and the troupe has escaped. It was certainly strange and this shot reminds me of that day! :) These bird's are huge...

Nice capture. I tried this once and the bird was bobbing it's head so much I never got a sharp shot. I like this a lot. :D
