Painted Bunting Upper Texas Coast

Nikon F5, 600/4, 25MM extension, SB 28 flash @-1.0.

I know that some of you have seen this photo before, but for my 1000th post, I thought I'd share it with all the NSNers. I would aslo like to say that it is a real joy being a moderator on such a wonderful site that feels like a family. It has been great getting to know many of you and I have learned so much from your great work. I look forward to many years of sharing together.

I was shooting migrants at a water drip and happened to be in the territory of this Painted Bunting. My heart almost lept out of my body when he chose to sing on the perch I had set up for migrants. Seeing this in the viewfinder and knowing I was photographing it, was one of the most exciting moments I have had as a photographer.

Alan, This image makes me cry it's so good! And thank you so much for your contribution to NatureScapes. The bird gallery would not be the same without you. We are a family :)

Alan, anyone who has ever photographed one of these beauties now knows the meaning of "humble". Fantastic!

Especially good! After shooting dozens of these birds I've yet to get the colors just right.
