(Female House Sparrow) Deak Creek WMA, Vermont

At first light on Sunday morning when I arrived a DCWMA, the snow geese were hiding in the far fields somewhere in the fog. But the Sparrow's were available so... what the heck. :) We had better luck with the Snow Geese right before sunset but I was still working with the 2x all day long. I even got some flattering images of Greg and Heather with this combination of lens and converter. However, I'm not sure why they don't want me to show them to anyone. I have to say I had taken down the lens for lunch when that Harrier flew by or that would have been the image I would have posted instead.

Tripod/Wimberley mounted Nikon D1H, 500mm AFS, TC-20EII, ISO 200, Aperture Priority, 1/180 @ F8, SB-80DX, BB. Cropped slightly from the right.

Pesky but a good subject to shoot. Now on to the bird.....

I like everything about this but a tad more flash or a curves adjustment to the shadowed side of the bird would make it sing. Now if someone needs an image of a female house sparrow you have one. ;)

Maybe something like this:

Great background and I like the rusty fence wire. There seems to be a bit much shadow on the bird itself for my tastes, anyway. Fantastic results for a 2x TC, nice and sharp.

Great shot. These pesky birds can be real hams at times.

No less grand in nature's scheme of things and just as important as a Bald head and a greater wing span, One the first birds I recall seeing from when I was a child, ever so busy building it's nest inside clay barrel tiled roofs in my town, nests bulging with twigs, horse hair and the occasional bit of fabric that adorned the entrance to the nursery deep inside, the only tell tale sign that spring had arrived in a place were summer is no different than winter or for that matter fall from spring, Funny how a little bird reminds you of so many wonderful days gone by when you were a child!!, It just made me smile!!!
One image I will remember you by!!!! Congrats!!! 8)

Anthony,

I like these sparrows on rusty fences. The BG works well with the gamut of brown tones throughout the image. The right side of the bird is to dark to show the detail. A slight gamma adjust would do it.

I like this little guy....nothing wrong with adding a little diversity to the portfolio. Spiderweb and droplet add a nice touch.

Tony,

I like the side lighting. It gives a nice moody feel. The water drop and spider web add character to the rusty fence.

Very nice!!

Very nice mage. I'd consider lightening up the shadow on the face which would be really easy with software.

Tony,

Nice shot. The repost did a great job of reducing the shadows. I like what the fence, web, and water drop add to the image.
